Millions of people every year look forward to the end of winter. They long to be out in the fresh warm air of spring and summer.

People flock to parks, lakes, and beaches to bask in the sun and enjoy the warm weather. However, with the increase in outdoor activities that warm weather brings, there are also certain precautions that you must take to protect your skin from the damaging affects of the sun.

Although the sun provides vitamin D, which is vital to your skin, too much can cause irreparable damage.

Sunburns, sunstroke and skin cancer are among the most damaging effects that the sun can cause. There are however precautions that you can take to prevent these often serious diseases. 

Sunblock – sunblock was developed to combat the suns UV rays. It comes in many different strengths, the highest being protection factor 50+. It is very especially important that you protect your children’s skin from sunburn.

Hats – wearing a hat can protect your head from the suns rays and can prevent sunstroke. This illness is contracted when a person is in the direct sun for long periods of time. Severe cases of sunstroke can be life threatening.

Protective clothes – when you are planning on being in the sun for long periods of time, it is recommended that you wear protective clothing. Lightweight long sleeve clothing can be found everywhere at affordable prices.

Limit Exposure – it is very important that you limit your exposure to direct sunlight. The UV rays in the sun are strongest between the hours of 10 AM to 2 PM. It is recommended that you limit the time you spend in the sun between these hours.

Drink water – you have probably heard drink plenty of water all of your life. However it is important to drink as much water as you can when you are in the sun. Dehydration can happen very fast and without you noticing it. Water replenishes your body and can combat the ill effects of the sun.

The sun can give you a healthy glow. However it can also be very dangerous if you over expose yourself too often. Studies and research has proved that over exposure to the sun can cause skin cancer. Taking the necessary precautions will allow you to spend many happy years with your loved ones.
