Botox Reduces Frown Lines

If you are at a place in your life where you are dealing with the effects of age and gravity on your skin, there will be many solutions and cures that are presented to you, but few will be as prevalent as the use of Botox.  This treatment is said to be something of a miracle cure for frown lines of the face, smoothing out skin and making it look younger, but before you consider undergoing this medical treatment there are a few things that you should be aware of and keep in mind!

One thing that you should be aware of is what Botox actually means.  Many people are unaware of the fact that this brand name stands for botulism toxin, and that the procedure involves the injection of of botulism underneath the skin.  Essentially, this drug paralyzes the surrounding area; in effect, it reduces frown lines by limiting or completely halting the movement of certain muscles.

The amount of drug injected underneath the skin is very small, ensuring that the effects are very controlled and limited.  When done correctly and by a professional, this treatment will create a smoother and younger appearance.  People who have had this procedure done are often quite pleased with and claim that it has taken ten, even twenty years off of their face.

It is important to remember that the effects of this treatment are not permanent; they last anywhere from three to six months, and to maintain the effect, a regular regimen should be kept up.  Similarly, keep in mind the fact that it usually takes a few days before the changes are noticeable; if you have an event that you'd like to go to and look your best at, make sure that you get this treatment well in advance.  While some people are not fond of the impermanent effect, others enjoy the fact that they can make a choice on it and that they are not stuck with one treatment for good.

When you are looking over the utility of a Botox treatment for yourself, make sure that you are also prepared for some of the side effects that can result.  While most people experience some fatigue and flu-like symptoms (headaches, respiratory problems, nausea, etc.), these are normal and usually go away in a few days.  Facial pain, redness and muscular weakness in the surrounding area is less common and these side effects can last for a few months, though you should also keep in touch with your doctor if these symptoms occur.  Some complications are quite rare, but you should still be aware of them; some people who undergo this treatment will experience double vision, infection, allergic reactions and the inability to close their eyes.  Other patients find that the flu-like symptoms simply don't go away, or that they have to deal with perpetually drooping brows or lips.  Once again, this is something that you should discuss with the person giving the treatment.

You will also want to ask yourself if you are good candidate for this procedure.  The injection of the botulism toxin can be problematic, and there are some people who should avoid it all together.  Pregnant or nursing women should avoid it, as should anyone with noticeable facial irregularity.  You'll find that people with heavy facial scarring or people with very thick skin on their faces will not get good results, and that people who have a known weakness or muscular problem with their face are warned off as well.  Essentially, the more healthy and normal your face is prior to the injection, the better a candidate you are.  Make sure that you discuss any factors like medication or skin or facial irregularity with your doctor before you proceed, and make sure that you do your own research as well!

When you are considering injections, always remember that you should find a licensed, reputable medical professional to do it.  You are essentially working with a toxin and this is not something that you want to leave to amateurs!  Remember that though is considered a medical procedure, the injection of botulism toxin is considered a cosmetic surgery; most insurance firms will refuse to pay for it, so make sure that you get your finances worked out beforehand.

While many people do resort to Botox, remember that there are many other, less dangerous ways to smooth out facial wrinkles.  There are some excellent anti-aging creams that do a wonderful job returning skin to a healthier, younger appearance.  Take a good look at your situation and make sure you explore all of the options open to you!
