7 Ingredients That Identify the Best Skin Care Products

As a person ages, their skin undergoes certain changes.  The epidermis becomes less supple as it loses its elasticity.  Wrinkles begin to appear as do age spots.  As the skin ages it begins drier and the need for hydration becomes more prominent.  As the aging process begins to take its toll on the skin, it is vital that the best skin care products formulated for aging skin are used.

As the body ages, it produces less collagen.  It is collagen that is responsible for maintaining the skin's elasticity.  When collagen production begins to lag, wrinkles and sagging appear.  Discoloration in aging skin occurs because oil production declines causing increased dryness.   The sebaceous glands are no longer working optimally and the skin may dry and flake.  An anti aging skin care regime is intended to re hydrate the skin, maintaining its youthful appearance and condition.  While it will not return the skin to that of a teenager, it may stave off the impending signs of aging.

There are many anti aging skin care products currently on the market.  There are formulations to revitalize aging skin, to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and even tighten and tone the skin.  There are so many different kinds of anti wrinkle and anti aging skin care creams and lotions out there that are formulated for mature skin, it can be overwhelming and exasperating to sift through them all and find the most effective preparation.

The key to determining the best brands is by reading the label.  The ingredients of a product are integral to its effectiveness.

Knowing which skin care product ingredients can tackle specific problems will aid in selection of a product that works.  Examples are :

1.  Idebenone - This is a chemically synthesized derivative of ubiquinone, most commonly known as coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10.  It has strong antioxidant properties.  CoQ10 has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease and free radical damage.  It also hampers the development of certain nervous system and neurological disorders.  It was for this reason that it was synthesized.

CoQ10 is a natural enzyme that was synthesized in an attempt to increase its effectiveness.  Idebenone was initially administered internally.  It was found to increase brain function, energy levels, nerve growth and serotonin production.  Additionally, it was noted that it protected cells and reduced inflammation.  There are currently no documented or known side effects from using this supplement.

Skin care manufacturers recently began testing topical versions of idebenone.  They tested it on damaged skin and found it to be very effecting in prevent and even reversing free radical damage caused by sun exposure, diet and lifestyle.  As the body age, it has less ability to fight free radicals.  The use of idebenone as well as other topical antioxidants in skin care products can aid the skin cells in regenerating and can even prevent further deterioration.

2.  Edelweiss Extract - This powerful antioxidant neutralizes free radicals that are caused by exposure to UV sun rays over time, pollution and the modern western diet which tends to be high in fats and sugars.   It also prevents the increase of super oxides which are integral in promoting the aging of skin.  Edelweiss extract provides a natural protection against UV rays which makes it a very good additive to sunscreen.  It contains bioflavonoids which strengthen blood vessel walls.  This is a good ingredient to look for in wrinkle reduction creams and lotions.

3.  Evening Primrose Oil - This herb has been used for centuries to treat many different kinds of ailments.  Most notably, it reduces inflammation and heals eczema.  It is also effective in psoriasis and dermatitis.   As far as anti aging skin care products, evening primrose's proven ability to reduce inflammation of the skin makes it very useful.  The oil of the evening primrose is seventy eight percent essential fatty acids as it is comprised of linoleum and gamma linolenic acids.  They are vital for maintaining the skin's water barrier while nurturing he membranes of skin cells.

When the body is deficient in essential fatty acids, the aging process of the epidermis can be hastened.  When this happens, the sebaceous glands become less active, acne, eczema and psoriasis are more likely to occur and the skin can become dehydrated.  The capillaries on the skin's surface can also become weakened.  By adding essential fatty acids in topical preparations and medications taken internally, those acids are put back into the body to replace those that are lost and those that it can not produce on its own.

It is this offering that makes evening primrose oil a very beneficial ingredient in anti aging formulas because it helps to prevent wrinkles while aiding the skin in maintaining its shape and texture.  It also slows the effects of the aging process.

4.  Shea Butter - This is a natural moisturizer that also tightens the skin.  It is much like edelweiss extract in that it protects the skin from ultra violet light.  In fact, shea butter is one of the most effective ingredients in many age defying skin care products found on store shelves today.  It does double duty in that it makes wrinkles less noticeable and helps skin appear smoother while improving the skin elasticity and suppleness.  It also improves skin tone and removes dry, scaly or rough skin.  Shea butter also contains fatty acids which work to prevent the drying, wrinkling and burning of the skin while it assists in the regeneration and healing of damaged skin.  Experts recommend finding an anti aging product that is at least twenty percent shea butter.

5.  Vitamin A (Retinol) - This very important antioxidant is particularly beneficial to aging skin.  The small molecular structure of this vitamin allows it to penetrate the skin's epidermis, allowing it to repair damage in the lower layers of the skin while stimulating them to produce collagen and elastin.  I can also eliminate age spots and improve the pigmentation of the skin.

Another benefit of vitamin A is that it helps regulate the growth of skin cells.  Its topical use can help to improve the skin's elasticity and work to soften and smooth skin that is rough, dry or thicker than normal.  Retinol is also important for healthy immune function, digestive health and eyesight.  To achieve the full benefits of retinol, it should be taken internally as well as used in anti wrinkle skin care products.

6.  Vitamin E - This antioxidant enhancer actually increases the positive effects of other antioxidants in an age fighting formulation.  While it promotes healing of damaged skin, it also prevents skin cell damage and even inhibits the ability of free radicals to damage skin cells.

7.  Vitamin C - This is a vital component in the anti aging battle because it increases collagen production which helps to make the skin smoother and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.  It can bring life to dull skin and improve the complexion because it increases the blood flow to the skin.

By reading the labels on skin care products, particularly those for anti aging, and ensuring that these seven ingredients are included, it will be easier to determine which products are most beneficial for individual needs and conditions.

Look into Revitol which contains these powerful ingredients.
