All About Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream

The main reason anti-wrinkle eye creams are so vital for any woman is that the eye area is one of the first places where wrinkles begin to develop and the face is always on show. As we all know, wrinkles can make you look older and that is one thing that no woman wants!

The average person blinks 10,000 times a day and their eyes are constantly being used so it is normal to have some wrinkling in the eye area. That doesn't mean we shouldn’t try to minimize the damage though.

What is an anti-wrinkle eye cream?

An anti wrinkle eye cream is a formula that has been tested by ophthalmologists to ensure it is safe to use in the eye area. The substance should be fragrance-free and match the pH of your tears. Using such a cream once a day should fight against the appearance of wrinkles, dark circles and fine lines. If you already have wrinkles, an anti-wrinkle eye cream should make them appear shallower and smaller if you apply it daily.

The eye area is delicate and the skin there is very fine so it is better to use an anti-wrinkle eye cream than just use your regular moisturizer on this area of your face. Another reason is that eye cream is specially formulated not to irritate your eyes whereas normal facial moisturizer might sting a lot if it gets into your eyes and make them water. Normal facial moisturizers are often too heavy or drying for the delicate eye area and can make them look worse instead of better.

Alternatives to anti-wrinkle eye creams include facial exercises and staying out of the sun. Facial exercises actually decrease elasticity and can lead to wrinkles and it is impossible to stay out of the sun all the time. Botox and laser treatment are other options but not everyone wants to take such drastic measures or can afford them.

Many women do not start using these lotions until they are in their thirties or forties but there are some that you can use before then. It is a good idea to start using eye cream in your late teens or early twenties to help prevent future wrinkles, rather than try to tackle them once the damage has already been done. The type that suits you depends on factors including your age and skin type. You can also choose between gels, creams and serums. Some women prefer a cooling gel but others like a richer cream.

What type is best?

There are hundreds of anti-aging eye creams on the market and one of the best ways to find out what suits you the best is through trial and error. When you find something you like the feel, smell, results and price of – stick with it! Remember that an expensive price tag does not necessarily guarantee a better result. Ask your girlfriends which eye creams they prefer and why.

There are three main types, which are day eye cream, night eye cream and non-specific eye cream. Day eye cream is to make your eyes look better in the daytime, reducing dark circles and puffiness. Night eye cream, which usually contains retinol and/or alpha-hydroxy acid, is to repair the skin and prevent further damage. This is especially good for reducing wrinkles. Non-specific eye cream gives the eye area a bit of extra moisture if you do not want to use your regular moisturizer around your eyes.

Anti-wrinkle eye cream usually comes in small pots or tubes. Because the eye area is relatively small, a small pot does last longer than you might think. It is very important to make sure your fingers are clean before eye cream application, especially if you are dipping your finger into a pot rather than squeezing your eye cream out of a tube.

What do these products contain ?

Eye formulas tend to be emollient. This means they soothe and soften the skin rather than just adding moisture, so they can improve the appearance of the eye area.

They might contain ingredients such as caffeine, retinol, copper, alpha-hydroxy acids, vitamin C or alcohol. Alpha-hydroxy acids, retinol, vitamin C and copper work underneath the skin to stimulate collagen growth. Alcohol and caffeine temporarily remove moisture from the skin, giving it a tauter appearance. This makes wrinkles less evident.

How do you apply anti-wrinkle eye cream?

The skin around the eyes is very sensitive so it is a mistake to apply more eye cream than you need because this might encourage redness or puffiness. When your face has been cleansed or washed, you need to put a tiny bit of cream on a clean finger and gently pat or rub it into the skin. Use only a tiny bit. If you need more, you can apply more afterwards. Apply to the area under the eye and, unless it says you shouldn’t on the packaging, to the eyelid and below the brow bone too. Be gentle the whole time because vigorous rubbing will encourage more wrinkles!

How long does it take to work?

This varies, depending on the eye cream. Some skin care products promise instant results and others a slower result. It also depends how many fine lines and wrinkles you already have.

Some examples of anti-aging eye creams

One product which has received pretty good reviews is Modèle Anti-Wrinkle Eye Treatment Gel. This claims to diminish wrinkle size by up to 60% and wrinkle depth by up to 30%. Hylexin is another good one if you are more worried about under eye dark circles than wrinkles. Revitol Anti-Aging Solution smoothes the skin around the eyes, diminishes wrinkles and stimulates skin cell renewal. Apart from these, there are many other good anti-wrinkle eye creams on the market. There is plenty of information online or you can ask in your local beauty store or pharmacy which products they recommend.

What else can an anti-aging eye cream do?

You might have already guessed, but they that are full of natural antioxidants not only improve the appearance of wrinkles but are good for our bodies. Antioxidants are absorbed into your body and they help to clean out arteries and fight disease. Antioxidants are rejuvenating and very healthy.

It is never too late to start using a good anti-wrinkle eye cream to make your eyes look their best.
