Acne Answers

People have always been concerned with looking their best.  The face is the body part that we see first, so facial beauty is an important focus.  Acne and other skin problems can not only keep us from looking good, they can cause lasting scarring and other damage.  If you suffer from acne and want to get rid of this problem, here's some information that might help.

The bacteria responsible for acne exists on everyone's skin.  This means that it's among the most common skin disorders.  Contrary to what many people believe, there are things you can do about acne.  This requires paying attention to your lifestyle and to factors that might be making your acne worse.  By keeping track of these things, you'll be able to combat the problem.

Take a look back at your lifestyle over a period of at least the past several months.  If you've been skimping on sleep, not eating regularly, or not drinking enough water, these factors could be making your acne worse.  Living a healthy lifestyle and avoiding stress can reduce the frequency and severity of your breakouts, and make you healthier overall.  Try this strategy first, before you resort to medications.

If this doesn't work, you have two options.  Both home remedies for acne and prescription medicines have the same aim: unclogging pores, killing bacteria which cause you to break out, and decreasing the amount of oil on your skin.

Here's some information as to why these methods can reduce acne symptoms:

1. Opening up your pores is one of the most basic acne solutions.  By cleaning your skin, and maintaining a proper skin care routine, you can keep blemishes from developing.  There are a few different ways you can do this.  Washing once or twice a day with a mild cleanser can help you keep skin clear.  Don't be tempted to use a harsher cleanser, because the inflammation caused by it can actually make your acne worse.  You can also use exfoliants, containing salicylic acid that acts to peel off the outer layer of dead skin.  With this skin comes any substances that might be clogging your pores.

2. By attempting to kill the bacteria that cause acne, you can head it off before a blemish occurs.  This is the method used by many dermatologists.  Antibacterial cleansers containing benzoyl peroxide will help with this.  There are also topical preparations available over the counter, including gels, lotions, and creams that are applied in the area where you've been experiencing acne.

3. Reducing the amount of oil on your skin can help you avoid breakouts.  Excess oil production is one thing that can help aggravate your acne.  Some oil is normal, and trying to eliminate it will only speed up production.  However, you can use a gentle astringent to keep it from building up on the surface of your skin.

Other substances that might help include products containing gylcolic acid, another exfoliant, and facial masques containing sulfur.  Cleansing pads with benzoyl peroxide as an ingredient are also effective as an acne solution.

You can look for acne products that contain glycolic acid that exfoliates the skin. You may also use facial masques that have sulfur and antibacterial pads that have benzoyl peroxide that are effective to draw out the oil.

However, none of these will fix everything.  You'll have to make sure that you have a good skin care routine to keep breakouts from happening.  This might include twice daily cleansing with products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, and followed by topical application of benzoyl peroxide creams.  Be sure to use only light moisturizers, and makeup not containing any oil.  Night application of creams containing sulfur may also assist in getting rid of your acne.
